Liquider la guerre d’Algérie ? La solidarité nationale à l’épreuve du contentieux constitutionnel [Par Manon Altwegg-Boussac et Guillaume Richard]

In its 2017-690 QPC of the 8th February 2018 decision, the Conseil constitutionnel ruled that a law restricting to French citizens a pension granted to victims of violence or terror attacks during the Algerian War (1954-1962) was unconstitutional. It now allows foreigners, and especially Algerian citizens, to claim an indemnity from the French government. This ruling thus gives a significant insight on how the principles of equality and national solidarity have evolved since World War I.
